Hinatazaka46 formed out of the sub unit of Keyakizaka46 (part of Sakamichi Series - 46 Series) in 2019 and is named after Hyūgazaka street in Minato-ku, Tokyo. This Japanese idol group (earlier referred to as Hiragana Keyakizaka46) is produced by Yasushi Akimoto and signed to Sony Music.
The group comprises of 15-25 female Japanese Idols (singers and performers) who have cleared the Auditions setup by the group's agency. Currently the captain of the group is Kumi Sasaki.
No prizes for guessing that I am a big Nogizaka46 & Keyakizaka46 fan. I figured out Hiragana Keyakizaka were just a support group for Keyakizaka46 much like the Under Members for Nogizaka46.
Nagahama Neru was the first official member of the group. Hiragana Keyaki presented themselves at thier own separate event -- called Hiragana Omotenashikai ("Hiragana Hospitality Event") -- at Akasaka Blitz in Tokyo on Friday 28 October, 2016. The show was aired on TBS1. Nagahama Neru was a concurrent member for sometime, but due to pressures and load of juggling both as a Keyakizaka and Hiragana member was too much for her and she was permanently moved into Keyakizaka squad much to the dismay and heartbreak of Hiragana Members.
The group added 9 more Gen 2 members and 1 Gen 3 member + 3 more in 2020.

The group still lacked their own identity. They finally got to release a debut album titled “Hashiridasu Shunkan” as Hiragana Keyakizaka46 on June 20, 2018. It was a huge success and a big hit with fans. This proved that the group is more than capable of being on their own rather than play second fiddle to Keyakizaka46 by just being their Under group.
Hiragana Keyakizaka46 finally got their much needed break. The management passed on a letter and Sasaki Kumi, the captain was shocked to read that they are going to get a name change from Hiragana Keyaki to Hinatazaka46, on February 11 during a SHOWROOM broadcast. The rebranding gave them an identity, a purpose. Once often overlooked, they started drawing attention of fans and now were on the path to become a recognized Idol group.
They released their debut single titled “Kyun” as Hinatazaka46 on March 27, 2019 and have so far released 5 singles. All the singles topped the Oricon Japan Charts and debuted in #1 position.
They released their debut single titled “Kyun” as Hinatazaka46 on March 27, 2019 and have so far released 5 singles. All the singles topped the Oricon Japan Charts and debuted in #1 position.
On July 31, 2020, they live streamed a concert titled "Hinatazaka46 Live Online, Yes! With You!", where they announced the release of their first full album.
In September 2020, the group released their 1st Album - Hinatazaka46 with Azato Kawaii as title song. The group was scheduled to perform at Tokyo Dome later in that year which has been a dream of many Hinatazaka46 members.
The much anticipated Hinatazaka46 National Spring Arena Tour 2020 (日向坂46 春の全国アリーナツアー2020) set for October/November 2020 was cancelled due to the Pandemic.
That didn't stop them at all. In March 2021, they performed at their Hinatazaka46 Debut 2nd Anniversary Special 2days ~MEMORIAL LIVE: 2nd Hinatansai~ (日向坂46 デビュー2周年記念 Special 2days ~MEMORIAL LIVE:2回目のひな誕祭~) and W-KEYAKI FES. 2021 (with Sakurazaka46) in July 2021.
And now the 2nd chance, Hinatazaka46 Nationwide Arena Tour 2021 (日向坂46全国アリーナツアー2021) which is slated for September/October 2021.

As Hiragana Keyakizaka46:
I started following them after listening to Hanbun No Kioku & Dare Yori Mo Takaku Tobe. Hanbun No Kioku made such a deep impact that it will last forever. It is an all time Super Hit song. But after watching Dare Yori Mo Takaku Tobe - MV, I really got interested in the group and starting following them seriously. I was so happy to see such enthusiasm in a JPop Music Video with cute choreography and singing - Total Kawaii stuff!! I loved the whole the performance.
I totally love Yakusoku No Tamago - simply brilliant composition and well executed choreography with nice group formation at the end; Mijuku Na Ikari for its classical mix, rhythmic flow and powerful dance - arms raised, fist pumps, foot stomping moves.
W-Keyakizaka No Uta is a classic along with Soredemo Aruiteru. No War In Future is a bop infested song similar to KPop but is very cool song to listen to.
After they became Hinatazaka46, the hits kept on coming, back to back. Kyun, Kitsune, Do Re Mi So La Si Do, Tokimeki Sou, Konna ni Suki ni Nachatte Ii no?, Sonna Koto Nai Yo, See Through, Seishun no uma, Tada gamusharani, Nazee, Kimi Shika Katan, Koe no Ashiato & Do Suru are some of their best songs to date.
