Nogizaka46 5th Gen Members

Nogizaka46 get eleven 5th Generation Members. The announcement was made on Feb 2, 2022.

This comes at the back of lot of recent graduations especially over the last year with several 1st and 2nd gen members calling it a day.

This leaves Nogizaka46 with 4 Gen 1 members with Hoshino Minani graduating. 2nd Gen only has 3 members, with Shinuchi Mai graduating recently. 3rd Gen is fairly intact with 11 members, after Nogizaka46 eternal crybaby Ozono Momoko graduating from the group in 2021. All 16 Gen 4 members are still active.

The Auditions for Gen 5 were held between July to September 2021. Only first 8 of 11 members formed as the part of the group from February 2nd, 2022. The remaining 3 have some academic commitments, will formally join in March 2022 as per sources. The "5th Gen Omitatekai" is due to be held at Makuhari Messe Event Hall (a ticketed event), and broadcast during Nogizaka46 Hours TV on 23rd February 2022. The promo video suggests about 87,852 applications were received, the the biggest in J-Pop history some suggest.

Nogizaka46 Title Song Misses

Nogizaka46 may have given fans 26 #1 Singles and a truck load of hits but some of the best songs unfortunately have remained just B-Sides and not the Title Song of a Single. Here is a look at those songs that deserved to be the Title Song and should have become #1 Hits of the Group. Some omissions are absolute shockers.

Tip: Better get these songs on to your Nogizaka46 Playlist. Trust me if you haven't yet, you're really missing something!

All Lyrics by: Akimoto Yasushi

Single #1:

Aitakatta Kamoshirenai - is a coupling song from Nogizaka46's 1st single Guru Guru Curtain. This is a remake of AKB48's Aitakatta. MV is strikingly similar to AKB's with a new look. Nicely shot. One of the best Nogizaka46 MVs. Nice touch at the end where members (Ito Marika, Takayama Kazumi & Noujo Ami) do the circular motion as seen in Exile's Choo Choo TRAIN. My center pick would have been Hoshino Minami

Credits: Composer: BOUNCEBACK, MIKOTO | Arranger: Nonaka "Masa" Yuichi
Performed By: 1st Generation: Ikuta Erika, Ikoma Rina (C), Ichiki Rena, Ito Nene, Ito Marika, Inoue Sayuri, Eto Misa, Kawamura Mahiro, Saito Asuka, Saito Yuri, Sakurai Reika, Shiraishi Mai, Takayama Kazumi, Nakada Kana, Nishino Nanase, Noujou Ami, Hashimoto Nanami, Hoshino Minami, Matsumura Sayuri, Miyazawa Seira.

Single #2:

Ookami ni Kuchibue wo - is a coupling song from Nogizaka46's 2nd single Oide, Shampoo, by Under Members. Beware of the Nogizaka Zombies !!! Very groovy song! Performed by Under Members. My center pick would have been Wakatsuki Yumi.

Credits: Composer: Akira Sunset | Arranger: SHIRAISHI SaTORI
Performed by: 1st Generation: Ando Mikumo, Ito Nene, Ito Marika (C), Eto Misa, Kashiwa Yukina, Kawago Hina, Kawamura Mahiro, Saito Asuka, Saito Chiharu, Nakamoto Himeka, Nagashima Seira, Noujo Ami, Higuchi Hina, Fukagawa Mai, Yamato Rina, Wada Maaya, Wakatsuki Yumi

Single #3:

Hito wa Naze Hashiru no ka - is a coupling song from Nogizaka46's 3rd single Hashire Bicycle. One of the best Nogizaka46 MVs. It a very fun filled setting in High School Environment Nogizaka46 Member explore various challenges and try to get them accomplished in rather unconventional ways! Hilarious, nevertheless. Highlight is Sakurai Reika's spin with her hair fluttering... The whole MV is a pure joy to watch. Hoshino Minami and Ikuta Erika look like babies in the MV. My center pick would have been Sakurai Reika

Credits: Composer: KITAMURA TAKESHI, Tanoue Yoichi | Arranger: Tanoue Yoichi
Performed by: 1st Generation: Ikuta Erika, Ikoma Rina (C), Ichiki Rena, Ito Marika, Inoue Sayuri, Kashiwa Yukina, Saito Chiharu, Saito Yuri, Sakurai Reika, Shiraishi Mai, Takayama Kazumi, Nakada Kana, Nagashima Seira, Nishino Nanase, Hashimoto Nanami, Fukagawa Mai, Hoshino Minami, Matsumura Sayuri, Miyazawa Seira, Yamato Rina, Wakatsuki Yumi

Single #6:

Hoka No Hoshi Kara - is a coupling song from Nogizaka46's 6rd single Girls Rule. Let's face it Girls Rule might be a very popular song at that time, but it is freaking NOISY... A pain to listen to. Awful. This song is much more rhythmic and packs a melodic punch, hitting the right notes. Some Gravity Defying stuff in this MV, Literally. My center pick would have been Wakatsuki Yumi.

Credits: Composer: Sugaya Bros., Matsumura PONY | Arranger: Sugaya Bros.
Performed by: 1st Generation: Ito Marika, Inoue Sayuri, Saito Yuri, Sakurai Reika, Nakada Kana, Nishino Nanase (C), Wakatsuki Yumi

Single #7:

Sonna Baka Na - is a coupling song from Nogizaka46's 7th single Barrette. The song is also included in Nogizaka46's 2nd album Sorezore no Isu. One of the best Nogizaka46 MVs. The MV shows the different clubs that is a standard at schools all over japan and then the Idol Club/Group. The parody of being an Idol - very funny and a Total Laugh Riot. Enjoy with English Subtitles. Hori Miona is a deserving center for this song. Can't miss Takayama Kazumi's "Poji-peace" in the intros to which Wakatsuki Yumi could'nt control her laughter while shooting. Hashimoto Nanami plays the Ultimate Boss Man in this video. Nice touch with the Green Lotus Car.

Credits: Composer/Arranger: Akira Sunset
Performed by: 1st Generation: Akimoto Manatsu, Ikuta Erika, Ikoma Rina, Ito Marika, Inoue Sayuri, Eto Misa, Kawago Hina, Saito Asuka, Saito Yuri, Sakurai Reika, Shiraishi Mai, Takayama Kazumi, Nakada Kana, Nakamoto Himeka, Nishino Nanase, Hashimoto Nanami, Higuchi Hina, Fukagawa Mai, Hoshino Minami, Matsumura Sayuri, Wakatsuki Yumi
2nd Generation: Hori Miona (C)

Single #8:

Kodoku Kyoudai - is a coupling song from Nogizaka46's 8th single Kidzuitara Kataomoi. Another awesome songs that became a mere B-Side and remained obscured to many fans.

Credits: Composer/Arranger: Soulife
Performed by: 1st Generation: Shiraishi Mai, Hashimoto Nanami

Single #9:

Nani Mo Dekizu Ni Soba Iru - is a coupling song from Nogizaka46's 9th single Natsu no Free & Easy. One of Nogizaka46 best songs not to get an MV, shocking. My center pick Shiraishi Mai. This song speaks about tears, sorrow and strong bonds. It had a very emotional effect on Japanese Audience.

Credits: Composer: Kadono Toshikazu | Arranger: Kyoda Seiichi
Performed by: 1st Generation: Akimoto Manatsu, Ikoma Rina, Inoue Sayuri, Eto Misa, Saito Yuri, Sakurai Reika, Shiraishi Mai, Takayama Kazumi, Nishino Nanase (C), Hashimoto Nanami, Fukagawa Mai, Hoshino Minami, Matsumura Sayuri, Yamato Rina, Wakatsuki Yumi
2nd Generation: Hori Miona
Kennin Member: Matsui Rena

Single #12:

Wakaregiwa, Motto Suki ni Naru - is a coupling song from Nogizaka46's 12th single Taiyou Knock, by Under Members. Hori Miona is center for this MV along with Under Members. Quite a nice MV, a strange concept with an Indian Touch. Visuals, Cinematography nicely shot. One of the best Nogizaka46 MVs. This is the Short Version. For a full breakdown of this MV check this link below.

Igai BREAK - is from the 17th single released by Nogizaka46 - Influencer. Featuring Shiraishi Mai as the center along with Takayama Kazumi, Eto Misa & Matsumura Sayuri, seen enjoying themselves at an indoor Go-Kart arena. Single #18:

Live Kami - is coupling song from Nogizaka's 18th Single Nigemizu. Hori Miona is the center. This is an awesome MV featuring all Gen-2 members. Atarashii Sekai (新しい世界) is coupling song from Nogizaka46's 20th Single - Synchronicity, Type-B. Gen-2 Suzuki Ayane serves as the center with Under Members. This MV has a futuristic feel where members try to connect with something in outer space. Great classical music, melody and rhythm. Another awesome song. Nicely shot with good choreography.

Toki Toki Meki Meki (トキトキメキメキ) is coupling song from Nogizaka46's 20th Single - Synchronicity. This is another hilarious MV by the 3nd Gen members. Iwamoto Renka, Nogizaka's youngest member served as the center. The MV shows the members wait for the Summer to arrive and fun to begin.

Credits: Composer: Hiroki Sagawa/Yasutaka.Ishio | Arranger: Yasutaka.Ishio
Performed by: 1st Generation: Kawago Hina, Nakada Kana (C), Noujo Ami, Higuchi Hina, Wada Maaya

Single #25:

I See is coupling song from Nogizaka46's 25th SingleShiawase no Hogoshoku! It features 4th Gen members. It has the best intro tune for a song. This is not completely a good song. Its terrible in parts and have no proper foundation, very wayward. Having said that singing is good and some music bits are good. Well, not a disaster so to speak. If only it had continued on the same tempo with the opening tune and the title verse it would have been just wonderful!

Credits: Composer: youth case | Arranger: Sasaki Hirofumi
4th Generation: Endo Sakura, Kaki Haruka, Kakehashi Sayaka, Kanagawa Saya, Kitagawa Yuri, Shibata Yuna, Seimiya Rei, Tamura Mayu, Tsutsui Ayame, Hayakawa Seira, Yakubo Mio

Personally, I feel Nogizaka46 has past their prime. With the exit of Key 1st & 2nd Gen members and others pondering Graduation, don't know how long the group's charm will last. Certainly, they have lost the plot when it comes to the music that has been released in 2021. It has been horrendous. Hope there is a turnaround. Just, look at Hinatazaka46... Hits all the way!

I sure hope you have enjoyed these above picks.
Again, they are the best of Nogizaka46 not to hit big time.

Nogizaka46 Virtual Music Awards

This blog is to celebrate the best music from Nogizaka46. Although most of the songs in their Singles are great, some are nothing but Pure Excellence and a joy to listen. Ironically, most of them are little known B-Sides and not the Title Track of a Single (with a few exceptions).

Disclaimer: This has got nothing to do with Nogizaka46 CD Sales, TV/Radio Ratings, Ridiculous Fan Voting etc. Just based on the pure quality of the music and the lyrics as a combined force.

Before we start off Nogizaka46 has already won 2 consecutive Premier Class awards in Japan known as "Song of the Year Award" or "The Grand Prix" at the Japan Record Awards in 2017 & 2018 for their 17th Single "Influencer" & 20th Single "Synchronicity". Well those are main stream awards equivalent to the Grammy's, no denying that!
I have come up with my own fantasy/virtual award ceremony to showcase some of their great songs and have categorized them into each area of brilliance for what they are. There are single or multiple winners for each category. The Nominees are classified into groups of 5 which is Title Singles, B-Sides of Singles 1 to 7, Singles 8 - 16, Singles 17 - 25, Non Single/Album. All time best songs highlighted below.

Nogizaka46 MV Explained - Under

Under is from Nogizaka46's 18th single "Nigemizu" Type-B, released on August 9, 2017. The music video was released along with the CD and shipped in a DVD.
Music Video:

Key Personnel Involved:

Performed by:
Under Members (アンダーメンバー) (18 Members) (Kitano Hinako & Nakamoto Himeka Centers)
1st Generation: Kawago Hina, Kawamura Mahiro, Saito Chiharu, Saito Yuri, Nakada Kana, Nakamoto Himeka, Noujou Ami, Higuchi Hina, Wada Maaya
2nd Generation: Ito Karin, Ito Junna, Kitano Hinako, Sagara Iori, Sasaki Kotoko, Suzuki Ayane, Terada Ranze, Yamazaki Rena, Watanabe Miria

About the Song: Very emotionally charged and powerful song. Music is great with deep Piano drops and powerful Guitar riffs, nice and clean bass lines, excelling drums & precussion work and muted violins in the background. The members have done excellent work delivering it. Kiichan (Kitano Hinako) actually sang the opening lines which is brilliant! The first Guitar solo is simply phenomenal, the second solo was a disaster. The singing all round is simply outstanding and well executed. The 3 lines following the first Guitar solo are just simply amazing!!

Lyrics: Akimoto Yasushi
Composer: Shirato Toru
Arranger: Endo NAOKI

Rating: 5 Stars out of 5

MV Theme:
Well, to be honest this MV in general it's just a compilation of Under stories, a freakishly long one, almost 6 mins long. How they were eliminated from the Senbatsu election, the pain, the struggle, the misery that follows and what it means means being Under. Simply put its an "Under" documentary presented as a song in Under 5 mins!!
Simply put, it is an emotional roller-coaster for those member who simply did not make the cut. Senbatsu is like competing in English Premier League (Football), if your not at the top then you are relegated and you have to earn you way back in!
This MV opens with member comments taken from Under Live X Mas in 2014. Typical documentary stuff, so there's nothing ooh-aah about it. Wait... Part of a Documentary made into a part of an MV? Err... Right! Its like the Who's Who of Under.. stating with the President of Under - Nakada Kana, followed by Yuutan (Saito Yuri), Sayu-Ranger (Inoue Sayuri), Bebitan (Ito Marika), Himetan (Himeka Nakamoto), Hinachima (Higuchi Hina), Kiichan (Kitano Hinako).

Being in Under can be really difficult. You actually end up performing more times than the regular members. And by no stretch of imagination these shows are big in capacity. It is a mere 100 - 500 or 1000 fans in small halls and arenas! That is really sad.

Next - Hashire Bicycle Senbatsu section. Quickly move into the first Senbatsu selection where few didn't make the cut. Oh Man, Eto Misa, Saito Asuka, Rotti, Noujo Ami, both Nagashima's, Kawago & Higuchi Hina, Saito Chiharu all shattered and in tears, disappointed because they didn't make it. Especially for Wakatsuki Yumi it was devastating, so when she was shown crying in the MV, she was actually crying because she thought she was not chosen to perform in a stage act called Principal. It was just a big misunderstanding in the end. Never-mind.
On to the Kidzuitara Kataomoi Senbatsu section, and the million dollar question is who is the member who starts inconsolably crying at 2:05 to 2.13??? (referring to the two pictures posted just above). Well, that's the Seifuku that was used in the Seifuku no Mannequin Senbatsu. There were three Seifuku at that time and that gray Seifuku was worn by Ikoma Rina, Hoshino Minami, Ito Marika and few other. But I still didn't have any idea to who that girl was.
Finally I found an answer on Note.com. It was Ito Marika. Damn!!
For Kidzuitara Kataomoi Senbatsu, they called out the last two rows first. A seemingly smiling and happy Higuchi Hina hides her disappointment as Nishino Nanase is announced as Center for the single.

Kitano, Noujo, Chiharu and Marika all look shattered.
Next is the training scene for the 2014 Manatsu no Zenkoku Tour (note the black t-shirt worn by Saito Asuka, Watanabe Miria and Sagara Iori). By now for Under 2014, Inoue Sayuri, Ito Marika and Saito Asuka became the lead and started performing at the front of the pack.

Then another training scene. Just over the 3 minute mark we see a few 2nd Gen members - more prominently Ito Karin, Sasaki Kotoko and Ito Junna. Just behind the three.. Zukyunn its Akimoto Sensei.. err. Akimoto Manatsu over there. What is she doing among Under? Then moving onto Kiichan who is busy practicing dance moves.

Next is the Senbatsu selection for Taiyou Knock. By this time, it just beacme a procession. The same bunch kept getting left out. But this Senbatsu threw in a shocker, Hori Miona is relegated to Under. The definitive moment indeed, because for the first time an ex-center had been knocked out and pushed down to the lower ranks. Hori Miona is then shown training hard and practicing with the Under Members.

Next few clips from the concert. This includes Under Live 2016 and Under Live X Mas 2016.

At the 4 minute mark, Under member are seen waiting on the entrance steps to join on stage.

Nakada Kana is crying her heart out and being consoled by Shinuchi Mai who taps gently on her head. Higuchi gives a warm embrace to Watanabe Miria?

Few Shots of Sasaki Kotoko and Himeka Nakamoto all alone.
And the final one is Under Live 2017, which only has 12 members (by then a few had graduated). This MV closes with a Nogizaka46 slogan, taken from Under Live 2017. The members salute the crowd with a bow!
Nogizaka46 - Effort, Thanks, Smile - Under - Take a bow!
