KPOP queens TWICE returned with their 11th mini album “BETWEEN 1&2”, released on August 26 by JYP Entertainment & Republic Records, along with the music video for the title track "Talk That Talk".
This is the group's first KPop release in 8 months after a string of Japanese releases recently. The TWICE members Momo, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, Jeongyeon, Mina, Jihyo, Nayeon, Sana, and Tzuyu were all geared up to deliver a fun mini albums to their adoring fans.
Mini Album Announcement:
On July 12, 2022, JYP Entertainment announced TWICE's comeback with all members of TWICE renewing their contracts with JYP Entertainment and on July 26, the track list was revealed. Shortly after that the promotional activities started all leading to Teasers and the eventual release on August 26.
The Mini Album:
Here is how TWICE described the album.
The title song 'Talk that Talk' is a song with a lovely message, "Tell me everything in your heart!" The vague yet energetic beat of the 90s mood and the catchy chorus melody that stretches coolly boast a strong addictive power. Composer Lee Woo-min 'collapsedone', who made TWICE's hit songs such as 'KNOCK KNOCK' and 'The Feels', composed and arranged the song, and the famous K-pop lyricist team Danke wrote the lyrics and completed it.
Like the lyrics of "Talk that talk, just one word, Talk that talk LOVE, Ooh", the music video for the new song depicts nine members who are working hard to hear just one word of 'LOVE'. The appearance of unraveling the code sent by ONCE and searching for the answer is charismatic and energetic like the main character in the movie, and a trendy reinterpretation of kitsch sensibility, retro graphics, and links to the previous work 'SCIENTIST' MV Various fun elements, such as a worldview, provide a high level of immersion.
The new album includes the title song 'Talk that Talk', followed by 'Queen of Hearts', 'Basics', 'Trouble', 'Brave', 'Gone' ) and 'When We Were Kids', a total of 7 tracks were recorded. London Noise,
The members were also in charge of writing lyrics for the b-side songs. Chaeyoung wrote the lyrics for the 3rd track 'Basics', and Jihyo not only wrote the solo lyrics for the 4th track 'Trouble', but also participated in composing, chorusing, and directing vocals, demonstrating her musical abilities. Dahyun put her name on the lyrics credits of the 6th track 'Gone' and the last track 'When We Were Kids' and melted the delicate emotions.
Music Video:
The Music Video "Talk That Talk" has been billed by NME as a "colourful, high-tech music video". This futuristic approach to the MV is to appeal the ever tech savvy fans who dig Social Media, high tech gadgets and are immersed in Cyberspace apart from the devoted contemporary KPop "Ones" fans. Members are seen holding glittery walkie-talkies and using computer screen that are afloat, to a QR code at the end which when scanned leads you to an Instagram post on Twicetagram announcing the Group's Fandom! There is plenty of Graphics Eyewash and let me not get started on the graphical elements used by the Post Production Team here. The vocals, the melody seems very direct with cool choreography give it a Retro Pop feel with everything visually Y2K centric.
The track was composed and arranged by Woo Min Lee "collapsedone" and Like (MRCH), with lyrics written by Danke.
Success or Failure:
"BETWEEN 1&2" recorded a huge 288,836 album sales on its first day of release. Yet the mini album only peaked #30 on the Melon Charts with "Talk That Talk" slotting in at #11. TWICE fans however say who need charts, while others blame haters or rival fandoms.
Elsewhere, "BETWEEN 1&2" debuted #2 on the Worldwide iTunes Album Chart and "Talk That Talk" debuted #6 on the Worldwide iTunes Song Chart. JYP Entertainment claimed that Between 1&2 has surpassed 1 million pre-orders, biggest thus far for an pre order album.
Tracklist:
The total length of the Mini Album is just over 22 mins for the 7 songs which was recorded at JYPE Studios in Seoul, South Korea. The b-sides are all in tune to the signature TWICE sound. Have a listen.
