Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Hits

This blog features some of the best work by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu in last 2-3 years and the Live Videos released on her Official YouTube Channel.

In the previous blog we featured hits like PonPonPon, Candy Candy, Fashion Monster, Ninja Re Bang Bang & Kira Kira Killer. (Read More Here)
This time we feature hits from the Japamyu Album. It's packed full of excellent songs and hits.

Harajuku Iyahoi

Song Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars
This song is much different from what I have come to hear with her previous hits. It much more mature and fresh. Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's vocals are best as always. To describe in a sentence, this song is "festive song and the enigmatic". The music has improved a lot dropping the Popish beat and adopting more rhythmic composition, great tempo & beats, and a mature outlook. Released in January 18th, 2017, this song was composed by Yasutaka Nakata and has adopted the use of EDM and is a seriously upbeat song.

MV Breakdown:
The Music Video is directed by Hideyuki Tanaka. In this video we see a lot of items (in true Kyary PP Style) walking around in a black background such as a Polka Dotted 6 feet inverted hand walking on its fingers, 3 stacked Hats, Sneakers (laced & high heeled), mechanized robotic wheels carrying Kyary's Picture Frame.
At the 47 second mark into the MV, the Picture Frame move aside to reveal Kyary Pamyu Pamyu in a sort of Russian Hat and Ice Blue & Silver Winter outfit (yeah, very Russian like feel) followed by 2 of Kyary's clones (Iya & Hoi) walking in with her Face cutout dressed in pink outfit. As they throw them away the two clones are seen in a pretty pink bow over their heads. All of which were filmed using motion capture.
As the main part of the song catches steam, we see loads of colorful lights blinking in the background (like traffic lights/pedestrian Walk/Go with different colors), a load of extras marching behind the 3 Kyary's with colorful illuminated dots all over them. They are in 2 sizes, full length and a smaller version of them. And then the 2 dried up tree with branches wearing a gold belt. They come stacks of high heels, shoes, cute stuffed small teddy bears, over sized stack of t-shirts, multiple Kyary PP clones in Pink Dress.
In the last segment we see a table with Triangular stacked Martini glasses, Neon lit Signage of Japanese words and a Circular one in English called "LAFORET" - I googled what it is and and Google says "Laforet Harajuku is a department store, residence, and museum complex located in the Harajuku commercial and entertainment district of the Shibuya neighborhood, in Tokyo, Japan.". There you go!
At the end of the video all the extras simply disappear dropping all the items they carry on the floor into a pile of mess. Kyary PP gives a 45 degree right arm raised salute, the 2 clones pose heart symbols, and the two tree like things point towards Kyary PP. Interesting concept with no graphics eye wash and interesting selection of colors to do the trick.
Kyary Pamyu Pamyu describes this song as : “‘Harajuku Iyahoi’ has an adult-like sound to it. As well as that, it has a lot of fun with the mysterious word “Iyahoi”. I think that contrast is exciting. It’s a mysterious festive song. I also tried contrasting the colours of the outfits. In the music video, you have my main outfit which is light blue, silver and cool, and the clothes for the side dancers are made in a pop style, with pink and lavender outfits. I’d also like people to see the outro, where lots of mysterious dancers come out one by one. They also have a pop style but are overflowing with madness.”.

“This track is my new upbeat track to interact with audience at shows, with the crowd calling out “hoi! hoi!” with me. My debut single PONPONPON featured the phrase ‘at that intersection’, and the exact same phrase appears here too, which makes me feel really warm and nostalgic.”

Other Big Hits:

Koi No Hana

Song Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars
This is a simply brilliant "Koi no Hana (CAPSULE COVER)". Vocals are magnificent. And to complement the music composed by Yasutaka Nakata is spell-bounding. One of the more mellowed version to the usual upbeat track that Kyary's known to, this has a more calming and pleasing effect and a pure joy to listen to.

MV Breakdown:
The music video has live footage from Kyary’s Live Tour called “Japamyu Hall Tour 2018: Hoshikuzu no Cherry Martini.” which was aired on SPACE SHOWER TV. The shows are all themed on a Cabaret like feel. The MV also shows the backstage area, rehersals, Kyary’s Dancers and other staff members. Note: The MV features audio from the Album. Not live singing.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu describes: “I always include one cover of a CAPSULE (the band of my producer, Yasutaka Nakata) song on my albums. For this album I chose this one, Koino Hana. It’s a very feminine track, and not so me. If you compare them, you’ll hear that it ended up sounding quite different from the original.”

Other Big Hits:

Kimino Mikata

Song Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

MV Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu describes: “During the production of this album, I brought up the concept of feeling lost. It seemed to me that people were having difficulty dealing with things that made them feel out-of-control, with the media seeming to twist things, throwing gasoline on the fire to hype up the chaos. I wanted to alert the world that the majority can be wrong. Oh, and I tried to rap on this track!”

Todoke Punch

Song Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu describes:“We all get upset and angry with stuff surrounding us on a daily basis. On this track I sing about those angers with such a cute melody, which reminds me of Japanese pop songs from the 90s. It’s one of my favorites from this album.”

MV Breakdown *From Wiki:
The theme of the video is "Graduation." The video begins with her walking on her knees, to look like a child, with a polar bear holding her hand. Child Kyary encounters her older self from her initial modeling career. She sheds a tear as her model self walks away. Model-era Kyary walks onward, with the camera following. Model-era Kyary then graduates, receiving a diploma from Ponponpon-era-Kyary. Model-era Kyary then sheds a tear as Ponponpon-era Kyary walks onward, then sits down while kinetic typography is displayed, then walks by numerous props from previous videos. Ponponpon-era Kyary then meets Fashion Monster-era Kyary on a bench. Ponponpon-era Kyary sheds a tear as Fashion Monster-era Kyary leaves, recreates part of the music video for Fashion Monster, then resumes walking onward. Fashion Monster-era Kyary then hits a TV, seeing now-modern Kyary in hakama, dancing with the new background dancers, the polar bear still watching. All of the previous Kyary incarnations call back to her on a Videophone. Kyary then walks for a while with the polar bear, gives it a hug, and then waves goodbye to it. She then walks off alone, as the polar bear begins to cry at her departure.

The video contains numerous references to previous videos of her. Some of them include:
