ANGERME (アンジュルム), is a Japanese pop girl group managed by Up-Front Promotion and part of Hello! Project. They were formerly known as S/mileage (スマイレージ) formed in 2010 with 4 members: Wada, Maeda, Fukuda, and Ogawa and originally started as an indies Hello Pro Egg unit in 2009. They were rebranded in December 2014 as "Angerme" to mark a new start after adding its third generation of members. On December 8th, 2010, they released their first album, Warugaki 1.
History behind Group Name:
ANGERME (アンジュルム) was named by second generation member Nakanishi Kana. The group's name derives from the French words ange ("angel") and larme ("tears") and with the thought of working together to achieve their goals, and once they reach them, be overcome with happiness and cry. Logo is interchangeably used in English & Japanese with the Black and Blue colored text and Blue Angel Wing.

Wada Ayaka was the group leader until she graduated and had participated in maximum/most Singles released by the group (32). The current group leader is Takeuchi Akari and participated in 25 singles. Awards:
As Simleage, in 2010 they group won the prestigious Japan Record Award for Smileage "Yume Miru 15" under New Artist Award and Best New Artist categories.
Musical Style/Genre/Releases/Labels:
Musically again its pure JPop and the group features genres such as Pop, Electropop, Dance-pop, EDM. The group has released 34 Major Singles (4 indies, 29 major, and 1 DVD/Blu-ray) and 5 Studio Albums (consists of 3 studio albums, 2 compilation albums). After a string of #2 Singles, finally "Watashi wo Tsukuru no wa Watashi / Zenzen Okiagarenai Sunday" released in 2019 peaked at #1 in Oricon Charts selling close to 74,000 copies. They have sold over a million copies to date through CD/DVD/Blu-ray sales. They group has sold their music through labesl Good Factory Record (2009), UP-FRONT WORKS (2010) and hachama (2010-present).
Personally for me they have chucked out a good 25 hits and 10 of them are my personal best!
