Orange Caramel - Catallena

Orange Caramel (오렌지 캬라멜) is a trio of K-POP diva's (a sub unit of After School) with ‎Members‎: ‎Raina‎, Nana‎ & Lizzy. The group is managed by Pledis Entertainment. It's pure pop music, colorful videos and food inspired themes.

They have put out several Catchy and Pop-ular singles in 4-5 years of their existence. But this is awesome! So what is it!!!!

The Single:
Catallena is the groups self-titled 3rd Single. Their best work definitely, the Disco and Bollywood inspired hit with a couple Punjabi folk lines in the song... Wait a minute, Punjabi?? seriously! Holy Crap... Yes.. something from the wedding song called “Jutti Meri Jandiye” and the lines used was -

 
Jutti Meri Oye Hoi Hoi,
Paula Mera Oye Hoi Hoi.

Few others noticed resemblances the retro Disco group Boney M - Daddy Cool as well. Eh! Whatever.. I call this a Disco Pop!! Very well conducted and arranged. All 3 girls have sung their pieces so flawlessly, you will get really hooked all through in this track. The music fillers used are precise with the singing not very extravagant keeping the vibe just right. The Punjabi bits are natural which is a relief, for me. The song is just a shade under 3 minutes 30 seconds, making it for some easy listening. Smash hit!!

How did I come across it? Duh!! YouTube.. While randomly surfing through FBE's YouTube REACT topics, I came across YouTubers React to K-pop #2. At first it was a normal catchy pop.. but when panelist Lissy Singh pointed out they were singing in Hindi, that really made me intrigued into getting to know them even more.

The Music Video: Gotta watch the video first!!

I didn't find it wired or anything. But an interesting concept and a hidden message if your wise  enough to figure it out. 

The video starts off showing the girls as pretty mermaids, then they get wrapped in plastic on serving trays, ready to eat "cheap" sushi bits, with their price plummeting every passing minute, while the Korean TV personality "Gag Man" grinning, as his price is on the rise portraying him being an expensive sea food (Octopus or something).

We also get to see different people coming to this Sushi bar with a variety of Sushi moving around in conveyer belt across the bar. In between the theatrics you find the girls is colorful clothing with infectious dance moves, I love it. I am simply blown away how well the dance together. Simple and pretty moves. And not to mention the polka dots dress in white and blue Bell Bottoms, that's dang cool. 

In the end the girls transfrom into human form and shown eating sushi bits while they weep in sorrow.

One thing we can notice is the famed "HaH!!" missing from the MV at the beginning of the song. That's OK I guess if you have improvised it for the Live or Korean TV Shows to grab attention of the Audience from the beginning.

Controversy:
Despite the popularity, Korean broadcast station KBS didn't air as it found it to be unsuitable for Public Broadcast. They have since reconciled and let it air. Happy ending I guess.. Also the fan outrage that followed when the video was released in two different YouTube channels, a bad thing to do as number matters on YouTube and how viral it can become. On the flip side its kind of payback for the tunes few Bollywood musicians have lifted, borrowed, stole from the Korean music industry... Kapow!!
