CHERRSEE the Piano Mystery

This blog features 2 super cool songs by CHERRSEE who are a Piano Mystery with a great Melody.

CHERRSEE (stylized as CHEЯRSEE) was a Japanese pop girl group created by Korean producer Brave Brothers. They were active for 5 years from 2016 – 2021.

Two years prior to their debut, Brave Brothers auditioned 5,800 people in Japan. The winners, four Japanese girls and one Thai girl, were trained in Korea, getting assistance from K-Pop group AOA. Their debut single, "Mystery", was released on May 25, 2016, with the lineup of Iwai Hikaru, Suzuki Nene, Sayuri, Murashima Miyu, and Lena.

Their name comes from the words "cherry seeds" because the flower they develop into, cherry blossoms, attract people in great numbers.

In November 2017, CHERRSEE released their debut album Cherry Seeds containing hits such as Cry again and 白いシャツ (White Shirt) produced by Brave Brothers.

They have appeared in various music events and live performances such as Japan's largest fashion show "Girls Award", the world's largest idol festival "TOKYO IDOL FESTIVAL", and one-man live at Shibuya DUO. In addition to group activities, they are also involved in modelling and acting.

In 2018, they were transferred from Brave Entertainment to a Japanese label, J-ROCK, where in May, their first mini-album Melody was released. Member Sayuri had previously graduated, and new members Maruyama Airi and Nagashima Yuma were added. A string of singles followed, including Lady, BiBiDi BaBiDi Boo, and Call me babe.

On May 19, 2021, it was announced that a new member AMI would be joining the group.[1] However, on May 26, it was revealed that she had decided to not join the group due to differences in values and direction between the office and her and that the group's live "CHERRSEE 5th Anniversary Event ~Reborn~" would be cancelled.

On May 30, 2021, it was announced that CHERRSEE would disband after lineup changes and a year and 5 months of hiatus, on June 30, 2021. That's a wrap about the group, literally.

Music & Style:

The group to me is a great Mystery and even if a Piano were to be dropped they didn't seem to make much noise elsewhere in their music, while all the noise were made by 2 songs - Piano and Mystery. That is why I decided to name this blog as "CHERRSEE the Piano Mystery" with an awesome "Melody". We all have heard about the one trick pony, but this one takes the cake.. In fact it did one one but two. You will figure out why I said that.

As you would have figured out the group is heavy on K-Pop music, recording, looks of members, their styling, MV production who sing J-Pop songs.

Best Songs:

Piano

Melody is the first mini album by CHERRSEE. It was released on May 30, 2018, with "Piano" serving as the album's lead track. Also included were songs from their first single Mystery, their second single Shiroi Shirt, and their third single Cry again. So, basically it's their Greatest Hits and a must have if you really dig K-Pop by J-Pop artists. It was released in two editions: a regular CD edition a limited CD+DVD edition.

Piano is a mind blowing song. It's freaking awesome. It has a great best and tune without much noise. A little rock element at the end, an electric guitar at the end would have boosted it an amp. Great violin backing as well. Yes, the music the is fitted with GFRIEND style longer Boatswain's whistle or bop, and is almost identical to their song Glass Bead, lyrically and how they sing.

Glass Bead was released by GFRIEND in 2015, Rough in 2016. Ok, that now servers as the base of the song. Honestly, if I would have heard this song before Glass Bead, I would have been really satisfied as Piano is much better than the former.

The song was beautifully presented and sung by Members - YUMA, MIYU, AIRI, NENE, LENA, HIKARU. The MV production is fantastic. Brilliant camera work, the outfits are great, excellent location and lighting effects giving it a classy feel, and yes very GFRIEND like again!!. I still wonder why Brave Brothers named the song as Piano. Totally wierd, the piano in the MV is just a plain white one and barely gets any coverage. Strange.

MV Production: The girls wear sleek black outfits while performing in a mansion, other scenes include the members wearing cute white and black outfits while dancing in front of a forest area. The MV has a colored band at the top and bottom (Grayish Blue and Red) with main video running in the middle capturing the ambiance of the scene.

Mystery:

"Mystery" is the debut single released by CHEЯRSEE released on May 25, 2016. It was released in two versions: a limited CD+DVD edition and a regular CD Only edition. The limited edition comes with a 12-page jacket while the regular edition comes with a 4-page jacket. Both editions come with a trading card. The single sales were very low, in hundreds... with Total Reported Sales: 540 and weekly rank of 113 according to Oricon.

The song was performed by Members - NENE, MIYU, LENA, SAYURI and HIKARU.

The song has great melody with soft vocals and some rap bits. Very K-Pop ish.... Even the Music Video is same in its Production and Visualisation. Very vibrant colors. The outfits of the girls reminded me of KARA and f(x).

Bottomline:

The group was not fed in with good material to boost their outlook so they couldn't flourish in a very competitive Idol domain in J-Pop. Melody is a great package to have to remember CHERRSEE and you will keep humming to Piano for the rest of time!!
